Description

Pithari is the Greek name for large ceramic storage vessels that were used since ancient times to store or transport wine, olive oil or various types of vegetable products to be distributed to the population. Returned to the attention of the modern public as pithoi, when Western archaeologists so designated the vessels discovered by excavating the Minoan palaces in Crete and the Mycenaean palaces in mainland Greece, these vessels nowadays have a purely decorative role and can give distinction and nobility to landscaping.

The vessel is handmade with 100% natural ingredients harvested from the island of Kefalonia (Greece). The preparation and baking respects the ancient Greek traditions: clay and water are slowly kneaded, modeled, then traditionally fired in the fire for 14 hours at temperatures over 1000° C. After baking in the oven, the vessel is left to cool for another 14 hours, so that in the end it is filled with water and left like this for at least 24 hours. This whole process gives the vessels a greater resistance to low and high temperatures. We recommend the use of lifting feet, if the pots remain outside during the winter, to avoid stagnation and freezing of the water under the pot.

The work done entirely by hand makes each item unique, color and dimensions may vary slightly. All measurements refer to the maximum overall dimensions of the product.

Unlike pots made of other materials, ceramic ones protect plants against sudden temperature changes, their walls ensuring gradual heat transfer. The porous clay retains the excess water from which the plant is fed when needed.

It has drainage holes.
